To fill the emptiness in others

Some of my colleagues just left the company, but there is only one guy that everyone keeps reminiscing of due to his humor.

He always brings the positive energy to everyone with his jokes and funny choices of words, which make everybody in the company loves to get along with. And his decision to leave after nearly 1 year of commitment to the company was unexpected to the whole team.

And what needs to come will come, after a few weeks of notice, he departed from his position and left everyone with sorrow.

I keep hearing people say: “X is not here anymore, that’s so sad”, “why did he leave the company?!” and even “the company will be no fun at all without X”. Those kind of words make me frustrated. It’s like they are saying the company will be dead without him, and he is the only one can wake the company up.

Bearing enough of it, I try to bring back and create the same atmosphere when he’s still here. I start behaving like him, making the same jokes (only less funnier) and acting like as If it’s still the same.

I suspect some people might see that I’m overreacting these days, but I believe doing something is better than doing nothing. Instead of focusing on the negative influence, I put myself into a satisfied mode where I’m being more proactive than before and that this could help me to get out of the safe zone that I drew for myself.

After he left, I’m taking over his responsibilities along with other two because one is on maternity and another one is preparing for her wedding. I find many people will feel burdensome, except for myself, I really enjoy and appreciate this as I get the chances to learn and experience more.

Since I only have more than a month left at this company, I will utilize all the time being to lessen the burden for the company.
